Privacy Policy

1. Information We Collect

Account Information: Name, email address, and authentication credentials (including third-party sign-in via Google or Apple). If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive only the information you authorize (typically name and email).

Home Information: Address, year built, square footage, home features (roof type, HVAC system, pool, etc.), and maintenance history that you provide during onboarding. Your address is also used to determine your climate zone for scheduling recommendations.

Usage Data: How you interact with the Service, including tasks viewed, maintenance items completed, features used, and general app navigation patterns. We do not track you across other websites.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • Generate personalized maintenance plans based on your home's characteristics and local climate zone
  • Send maintenance reminders and scheduling notifications
  • Sync maintenance tasks to your Google Calendar (only when you explicitly connect your calendar)
  • Improve our AI-powered recommendations and overall Service quality
  • Process payments for premium features via Stripe

3. Information Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share data only with the following third-party services that help us operate:

  • Supabase: Database hosting and authentication (your data is stored with row-level security)
  • Google AI (Gemini): Processes your home information to generate personalized maintenance recommendations. Home data sent to Gemini is not used to train Google's models.
  • Stripe: Processes subscription payments. We do not store your credit card details — Stripe handles all payment data directly.
  • Google Calendar: Only when you opt in — syncs maintenance task dates to your calendar. We access only calendar event creation, not your existing calendar data.
  • Vercel: Application hosting and delivery
  • Legal Requirements: We may disclose information when required by law, subpoena, or court order, or to protect our rights and safety

4. Data Security

We use industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit (TLS/HTTPS) and at rest. Your data is stored securely on Supabase with row-level security policies ensuring you can only access your own data. Authentication tokens are encrypted and API keys are stored in secure credential stores, never in source code.

5. Third-Party Services & AI

ShelterIQ uses Google's Gemini AI to generate maintenance recommendations. When you onboard a home, your home's characteristics (address, age, features) are sent to Gemini to create personalized schedules. This data is processed per Google's AI API terms and is not used to train their general models. When you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive only the information you authorize (typically name and email). We do not access your contacts, files, or other account data beyond what is described in this policy.

6. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we permanently delete your personal data, home profiles, and maintenance records within 30 days, except where retention is required by law. Google Calendar events created by ShelterIQ are not automatically removed — you can delete them from your calendar directly.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access your data through your account dashboard and settings
  • Correct inaccurate information via your home profile settings
  • Delete your account and all associated data at any time from Settings
  • Disconnect Google Calendar integration at any time
  • Opt out of non-essential communications
  • Request a copy of your data by contacting us

8. Cookies & Local Storage

We use essential cookies and browser local storage for authentication, session management, and remembering your preferences (such as language and theme). We do not use third-party advertising or tracking cookies. No data is shared with ad networks.

9. Children's Privacy

The Service is not intended for users under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from minors. If we learn we have collected data from a child under 18, we will delete it promptly.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. We will notify you of material changes via email or in-app notification. Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
